Deptford Bites will bring together the best produce and street food traders London has to offer, as well as a selection of craft stalls with a focus on South East London makers & designers. They’ll be also be live music every week and of course all our fantastic arches will be open to browse. It’s the perfect place to grab some food or stock up your cupboards with fresh produce and speciality foods.
Produce traders lined up for the launch day include Celtic Bakers, Storytime Bakery, Marsh Farm Produce and The Fresh Fish Shop. In the craft and design area you’ll find popups from perfumier Maya Njie, prints from Catford Creative and Deptford’s very own Stray East with their gorgeous homewares.
Street food options include flavour punching Northern Thai food by KraPow LDN and the sophisticated Oyster Boys who will be serving freshly shucked oysters and made to order Bloody Mary’s from their retro food cart.
After spending much of her childhood in Deptford, Zoe Adjonyoh from Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen will also return with her out of this world Ghanaian creations. And finally, for your sweet fix, the market will welcome plant based, dairy free, Black Mylk Ice cream.
The market will also play host to special events throughout the year including the popular We Love Cheese festival on Sat 5th May.

Featuring Adrian Luckie from Mama’s Jerk and Saima Arshad from Deptford Esquire, chaired by Chris Waywell – Associate Editor of Time Out. With Deptford Market Yard now 6 minutes by train from London Bridge, a new demographic and the food scene focused on Deptford, can SE8 ever be the same again? Food names and locals chat about the ups, downs and realities of regeneration. Can everyone play nicely together?

2pm ‘Deptford Ditches Dairy?’
As Deptford’s demographic shifts, so does the demand for vegan food. Is Deptford ready for a dairy-free, seitan-heavy, tofu-loving future? Vegan and non-vegan foodies, chefs and restauranteurs including Vegan ambassador Jay Brave gather to chat about whether Deptford is ready to go the same way as Hackney and be submerged with seitan. Or is veganism just another foodie fad?

3pm ‘A new chapter. Who’s story is this anyway?’
As Deptford starts a new chapter, who gets to tell this story? Grace Dent, Zoe Adjonyoh and Mimi Aye discuss how at the highest levels of food and restaurant influence the power is still mainly in the hands of a very narrow group of people. A lively chat by people who have broken barriers about changing the face of food.
